- Discovering, selecting, transplanting and preserving the genetic resources of economically valuable seaweeds (marine plants)

- Fast gender multiplication technology (tissue culture, spore projection…), cultivation technology for developing the economic marine plant resources

- Taxation, isolation and preservation of high value enzymic resources from Vietnamese halobiont for using in algal processing technology and pharmamaterial production

- Application of modern biotechnology (micro-biotechnology, tissue cultivation, enzymic technology…) for developing the fishery culture and creating new medicinal products and new value-added pharmaceutical materials from marine resources.

- Study of chemical composition, chemical structure, extraction technology, isolation and modification of natural substances of high economic value, especially bioactive substances from marine algae.

- Set up of highly effective intergrated technologies for processing brown, green and red seaweeds and marine animals to create a model of a biopharmaceutical complex for producing polysaccharides, polyphenols, fucoidan, laminaran, alginate etc.

- Set up of intergrated technologies for production of pure precious chemicals and materials from brine and seawater

- Technologies of Inorganic materials from marine resources (diatomite, sediments etc)

- Manufacturing of materials with specific properties such as anticorrosive and antifriction, and advanced materials for high-tech application by using electrochemical technology.

- Studies o­n production of optical, opto-electronic and nano-sized materials intended for use in optical informatics, production of optical sensors and advance light sources, automation in physics experiments, scientific and engineering instrumentation, computational physics ect.

- Ultratrace analysis of substances and their speciation in differentsamples using modern physical and physico-chemical methods such as ICP-MS, HG(GF)-AAS, HPLC-MS, GC-MS, non-destructive methods (gama-, neutron-activation analyses, X-Rays Fluorescence, X-rays difraction, gama spectromtry)

- Structural analysis of natural substances, especially those with bioactivity, from halobionts using modern physical, physico-chemical and biological methods such as MALDI TOF, NMR, GC-MS, electrophoresis, FT-IR, FT-Raman and molecular chemical methods

- Bioactivity analysis (cytotoxical, antiviral, antibacterial, antioxydant) of different substances from marine animals

- Studies o­n development, perfection, optimization, standardization of the physico-chemical and biological analyses for speciation, quantitative determination of different functional groups, structure and properties of substances and materials in the survey of the natural resources, inspection of food safety and drugs, material and environmental analyses for the southern central provinces

- Studies o­n assessment of the impact of environmental factors, coastal tropical climate o­n the corrosion process damaging materials and protective coating layers

- Development of modern technologies for minimizing corrosion process which destructs materials

- Developing advanced spectroscopic methods such as thermoluminescence, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence for material analysis

- Designing and constructing different measuring device systems for analysis and automatic control of different type sensors

- Establishing an experimental nuclear physics research group for international cooperation with some research institutes in America, Japan and Europe.Arrangement and performance of experiments to carry out in the laboratories abroad and data analysis to perform in Vietnam.

- Establishing computational and analytical methods for physical research

- Building softwares for simulation, monitoring and real time remote control in automated factories and visual laboratories o­n network

- Building a satelite image receiving station and solving theoretical problems of optical physics to correct receiving images

- Keeping permanent activities of the station and providing satelite images to the regional establishments.

- Application of remote sensing technology into different fields for sustainable and reasonable exploitation of the natural resources of the southern central region (forecast of catching fishes, inventory and assessment of bio- and non-bio-resources).

- Application of remote sensing technology for environment monitoring and surveying, establishing the early warning systems to forecast the natural disasters and environmental break-downs which may occur in the region.

- Monitoring environmental parameters of the marine tropical climate to support the material corrosion research and assess pollution level.
